About Academy Nuʻu
A club built on character first
Academy Nuʻu Volleyball is a junior volleyball club in Portland, Oregon. We coach the athlete and the person at the same time, because the habits that win matches are the same ones that carry through life.

Who we are
Academy Nuʻu Volleyball is a junior club in Portland, Oregon, with teams from 12s to 18s that compete in local and regional play across the Pacific Northwest.
Every team trains to one standard: the same coaching philosophy, the same strength and conditioning program, and the same attention to the athlete as a person. A team's tier decides its competition calendar, not the quality of its coaching.
Outside the club season, our clinics and camps are open to any athlete who wants to sharpen a skill, whether or not they play for us.
The name and the spear
In Hawaiian, nuʻu means the highest point, peak, or summit. Our mission is to help every athlete reach their peak, on the court and off it. Reach Your Peak. Elevate the Game. Strive for the Summit.
The Hawaiian proverb Kūlia i ka nuʻu means "strive to reach the summit." It was the personal motto of Queen Kapiʻolani, who urged athletes and scholars alike to do their best work. For us it speaks of hoʻomau, perseverance: the summit is reached through steady effort, on the court and off it.
Our mark carries the koa ihe, the Hawaiian spear carved from koa wood: a single piece, shaped with patience, and only as strong as the hours that went into it.
The spirit of aloha runs through how we coach. Respect for the game, for teammates and opponents, and for the families who make club volleyball possible.
What we stand for
-
Dedication
Show up, work, and do the unglamorous reps. Skill is built in the hours nobody watches.
-
Resilience
Losing is not weakness. Staying down is. We coach athletes to get up, adjust, and go again.
-
Aloha
Respect for teammates, opponents, officials, and family. The club is a community before it is a roster.
Our coaches
Dale Agbayani is the owner and head coach of Academy Nuʻu Volleyball. He brings a dynamic blend of leadership, technical expertise, and national-level experience to the club, where he works to cultivate talent, develop team culture and guide athletes through the collegiate recruitment process.
Coach Dale has served as first assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Linfield volleyball program, alongside head coach Jenna Street. At Oregon Premier Volleyball Club he has served as Boys Director, Assistant Girls Club Director, Master Training Coach and Recruiting Coach, leading both boys and girls teams and playing a pivotal role in coach development and athlete training.
Earlier, he spent four years as associate head coach at Clackamas Community College and later coached at Warner Pacific University, an NAIA institution.
Every coach holds current CEVA and USA Volleyball coaching membership and SafeSport certification.
Where we train
We train at Parkrose High School and Parkrose Middle School, Oregon City Christian Church, and Rivergate Adventist Elementary.
Practice schedules are built around our coaches and the gym time each facility can give us, so days, times and locations vary by team. Each team's schedule is shared with families before the season starts.
