How tryouts work

  1. Register

Register by email before the tryout date: use the Register by email link for your age group in the table above. It opens an email with the details we need already laid out. If no email opens, write to director@nuu.academy with the athlete's name, age group and date of birth, and a parent's name and phone. The tryout fee is $35, paid in advance by Venmo to @AcademyNuuVolleyball. Please put the athlete's name and age group in the Venmo note.

  2. CEVA membership

Every athlete needs a current CEVA / USA Volleyball membership to try out. Buy a CEVA tryout membership at cevaregion.org/membership before tryouts, and upgrade it when you accept a spot.

  3. Club waiver

Every athlete, and a parent or guardian for athletes under 18, signs the club's Waiver and Release of Liability. Read it before tryouts: Waiver and Release of Liability, or see all club documents.

  4. Come ready

Court shoes, knee pads, athletic clothing, water. Arrive early to check in.

  5. Placement

Coaches evaluate skills, court sense, effort, and coachability, and place athletes on the team where they will develop fastest. In most cases, offers are handed out near the end of tryouts. We'd love an answer right away. If you need a little time, your coach will set a deadline to accept or decline. Please let us know as soon as you can: we don't like to hold a spot for long, because another athlete may be waiting for it.

What coaches look for

Skill matters, and so does how an athlete handles a mistake. We watch for effort between points, how players talk to each other, and whether they listen. Those are the things that predict a good season more than a strong arm does.
